Bombay High Court Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud has been promoted as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, officials said today.
54-year-old justice Chandrachud, who is the second senior-most judge in the high court, will take charge as the Chief Justice tomorrow.
After completing Masters in Law from Harvard University, Justice Chandrachud started practising in Indian high courts and appeared in several cases involving Public Interest Litigations (PILs).

He was appointed as Additional Solicitor General of India in 1998 and was elevated to additional judge of the Bombay High Court in March 2000.
Justice Chandrachud was also appointed by the Supreme Court to submit a report on the state of beaches in Mumbai.
During his tenure as high court judge, Justice Chandrachud heard company petitions and PILs.
