Justice Sapre sworn in as Gauhati High Court Chief Justice

Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre was today sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik administered the oath of office to Sapre at a ceremony in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhawan here.

Assam Law Minister Tanka Bahadur Rai, Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla, Director General of Police Jayanto Narayan Choudhury, senior members of the judiciary, state government and other officials were present at the swearing in ceremony.

Justice Sapre was elevated as the first Chief Justice of Manipur High Court on March 23 this year before his transfer to his current position.

Earlier he was appointed as additional Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court on October 25, 1999 and became a permanent Judge on October 24, 2001.
 

Justice Sapre was transferred to Rajasthan High Court and assumed charge at the Principal Seat, Jodhpur on February 11, 2010 and then functioned as Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court from April 23, 2012 to March 20, 2013.

Born on August 28, 1954, at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, Justice Sapre had had begun his legal profession by enrolling as an Advocate in Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 21, 1978.

Justice Sapre has practised in Civil, Constitutional, Taxation, Company Law and Labour Laws and was a standing counsel for the Income Tax Department in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
