Juvenile among three held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.64 cr

A juvenile is among three persons held for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing over Rs 1.6 crore at the international airport here in separate incidents.

A passenger was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival here from Bangkok yesterday. "His personal search and examination of baggage resulted in recovery of three kg gold valuing at Rs 74.79 lakh," a press release issued today by the customs said.

In another case, another passenger coming from Dammam (UAE) along with a juvenile was intercepted. "After personal search of juvenile, gold weighing 3.5 kg valued at Rs 89.33 lakh was recovered," it said.
 

The seized gold weighs 6.5 kg and is valued at Rs 1.64 crore, the release said.
