East Singhbhum district committee president of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM) and party candidate from Jamshedpur West Assembly segment in the ensuing Assembly polls, Firoz Khan was today granted bail by a local court here.

The third bench of the court of Additional District Judge S K Chandrawahi granted the bail, said Khan's lawyer Sudhir Kumar Pappu.

Pappu said the arrest warrant, which can't be kept pending for long, was issued against Khan by the court on January 8 and the arrest was made ten months later on the day of filing of nomination.

In the mean time, Khan had attended several meetings convened by the district administration and police including one on the ensuing Assembly elections and was taking part in party activities, but the warrant was never served on him, Pappu said.

Khan had been arrested in connection with a pending case against him since 2012, when the JVM leader had led a demonstration in protest against killing of people in Myanmmar and allegedly pelted stones at the district head quarters office. An FIR had been lodged against Khan in this regard at the Bistupur police station.
