Led by the party's Central Committee Secretary, Abhay Singh, and MP Dr Ajay Kumar, hundreds of party workers, including women, assembled at the golf course in the wee hours and locked its main entrance.

This was part of the party's programme 'Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo,' thereby preventing the company officials and some other golfers from teeing off.

On the protest site, Singh said TCIL had been supplying a huge quantity of water everyday to maintain the golf course but was allegedly reluctant to provide water supply in the slum areas within 2-3 kms radius.

Singh also alleged that about a lakh people living in slum areas were faced with hardship due to deficient municipal services.

Describing the existing Tinplate Hospital as a "white elephant," Singh demanded the setting up of 30-bed Critical Care and Intensive Care units.

The JVM leader also warned of similar demonstrations every Saturday and Sundays to prevent company officials from playing golf if the management did not listen to the demands.

TCIL officials did not comment on the issue.
