K N Rai elected Sikkim Speaker

K N Rai was elected the Speaker of the Sikkim Assembly, while Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and 30 other legislators took oath today at its first session.

In his vote of thanks, Chamling, the Leader of the House urged all the legislators to respect the mandate given by the people and work for preserving peaceful and tranquillity of the state for taking it on the path of prosperity.

"We should all rise above our personal agendas and work for the state of Sikkim and its people and see that they flourish," he said.

The Chief Minister also announced his support to the NDA government at the Centre and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his thumping win in the recently concluded general elections.
 

Later the Speaker administered the oath of office to four Parliamentary Secretaries.
