Kabuli gram, gram spurt by up to Rs 1,000/qtl

Prices of kabuli gram and gram climbed by up to Rs 1,000 per quintal at the wholesale pulses market on brisk buying by stockists amid hike in import duty.

Masoor, arhar and other pulses also spurted.

Marketmen said persistent buying by stockists on upsurge in demand from dal mills and government's decision to impose a hefty 30 per cent import duty on chana and masoor dal to curb cheaper shipments, mainly buoyed the sentiment.

"To protect interest of farmers, the government has decided to impose 30 per cent import duty on chana and masoor with immediate effect," the finance ministry said yesterday.
 

The production of chana and masoor is expected to be high during this rabi season.

In the national capital, kabuli gram small variety spurted by Rs 1,000 to Rs 8,000-9,000 per quintal.

Gram followed suit and shot up by Rs 400 to Rs 4,850- 5,300 per quintal. Its dal local and best quality traded higher by Rs 500 each to Rs 5,600-6,000 and Rs 6,000-6,100 per quintal, respectively.

Besan Shaktibhog and Rajdhani quoted higher at Rs 2,300 each instead of Rs 2,200 per 35 kg bag.

Masoor small and bold too surged by Rs 400 each to Rs 4,000-4,100 and Rs 4,050-4,200 per quintal, respectively. Its dal local and best quality flared up by Rs 500 each to Rs 4,200-4,700 and Rs 4,300-4,800 per quintal.

Arhar and its dal dara variety jumped up by Rs 200 and Rs 300 to Rs 4,400 and Rs 6,400-8,300 per quintal respectively.

In line with overall trend, malka local and best quality shot up by Rs 300 each to Rs 4,400-4,600 and Rs 4,500-4,800 per quintal.

Moong and its dal chilka local moved up by Rs 200 and Rs 300 to Rs 4,900-5,600 and Rs 5,700-5,900 per quintal. Its dal dhoya local and best quality gained Rs 300 each to Rs 6,300-6,800 and Rs 6,800-7,000 per quintal.

Urad and its dal chilka local rose by Rs 100 and Rs 200 to Rs 4,150-5,750 and Rs 5,200-5,300 per quintal respectively. Its dal best quality and dhoya traded higher by Rs 200 each to Rs 5,300-5,800 and Rs 5,700-5,900 per quintal, respectively.
