Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday paid encomiums to late former president A P J Abdul Kalam and late former chief minister M G Ramachandran by saying they stand as role models for youth.

Delivering his address at the 27th convocation of MGR Educational and Research Institute here, Purohit said Kalam, whose life was one of achieving excellence through diligence, excelled as a scientist, a patriot and a leader; his love for children and students was unmatched.

Similarly, the Governor said M G Ramachandran had never been defeated during his tenure as Chief Minister, whose concern for the suffering and downtrodden was genuine.

Purohit said nations are built by visionaries who through their lives are characterised by compassion, hardwork, patriotism and are able to inspire the people.

Later, he handed over certificates to 36 PhD students, 1,969 graduates, 285 postgraduates and 13 M Phil students.
