Former President APJ Abdul Kalam will participate in the concluding function of the 50 years celebrations of Thane Manufacturers' Association (TMA) on April 17, organisers said.

Kalam will address a select gathering of industrialists here on the theme 'Manufacturing and National Development', TMA chairman Sudhir Kalia told reporters here last evening.

He will also release a coffee table book 'Memoirs of Thane Industry', which comprises details of members of the TMA, their success stories, and also the history of Thane, Kalia said.

TMA has been providing its services to the industries since the last 50 years and presently has around 150 members, he said.

The association was instrumental in setting up an emergency control room for the industries at the Thane Collectorate and holding training sessions for tanker drivers for transportation of hazardous chemicals and certifying them, TMA's former chairman Pritam Ghanshyamnani said.
