Kamarajar Port sets up vessel traffic service facility

A vessel traffic service facility was today launched at Kamarajar Port here with an aim of enhancing vigil in the coastal region.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Pon RadhaKrishnan formally launched the facility set up at a cost of Rs 14.10 crore, at Kamarajar Port, formerly Ennore Port.

It was set up to provide safe shipping movements at port as well as near anchorage areas. The facility also helps in identification of any oil spill in the region, an official release said.

Kamarajar Port Ltd Chairman and Managing Director, M A Bhaskarachar and General Manager (Marine services) Captain A K Gupta were present.
 

A similar facility was established by former Union Minister G K Vasan at Chennai Port Trust Ltd during the UPA regime.

Recently, Kamarajar Port Limited had announced a 10.64 per cent growth in its cargo handling for 2014-15.
