West Bengal government today moved a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court praying for speedy disposal of the ongoing Kamduni gang-rape and murder case in a trial court at Barasat.

Public prosecutor Manjit Singh moved the writ petition in the court of Justice Asim Kumar Ray where Investigating Officer (IO) in the Kamduni case Anandamoy Chatterjee was made the petitioner.

However the court questioned whether an IO of any case had the right to move the court seeking speedy trial.

It directed the petitioner to serve notices to the respondents so that they could be represented through their lawyers in the court.

The petition made the eight accused in the case respondents.

The court fixed the date of hearing on Thursday.
