Kamini Kaushal to receive Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award

Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal will be honoured with Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award for her remarkable career in cinema.

The 86-year-old actress, who recently played on-screen grandmother of megastar Shahrukh Khan in "Chennai Express", would be awarded during the 10th annual function of Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh Old Boys Association in the memory of late astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who studied here.

Kaushal has about 90 movies to her credit. She made her Bollywood debut with 1964 Chetan Anand's black and white film "Neecha Nagar" that won the 1946 Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) at Cannes Film Festival.

She shared the screen space with many renowned actors especially Dilip Kumar in "Shaheed", "Shabnam" and "Arzoo" among others.
 

Having started her career as a lead actress, she later shifted to character roles. Kaushal also wrote children's stories which used to get published in Paraag magazine. She also made an animation film "Meri Pari".

The award ceremony will take place tomorrow where the actress would be felicitated by Kalpana Chawla's father Banarsi Lal Chawla.

Junior World Chess Champion Tania Sachdev, Innovative Educationists Minoti Bahri and Kathak dancer Vidha Lal will also recive receive Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award that is given to outstanding women achievers.
