Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member P Kannan today launched a new outfit called Makkal Munnetra Iyakkam (People's Progressive Movement).
PCC had earlier written to the AICC seeking "disciplinary action" against Kannan for abstaining from electioneering in the last year's Lok Sabha polls here to seek support of voters to party nominee V Narayanasamy.
Vetriselvane one of the functionaries of the Iyakkam told newsmen here today that the movement was a non political outfit and would bring to focus various issues concerning unemployed youth, the poorer sections of people, students and weaker sections.
Kannan's term as Rajya Sabha MP comes to an end in September this year.
The name board of the outfit displayed on the premises of its office building here contained Kannan's image on the one side and that of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj on the other side.
