Kanpur robbery: Toll rises to 2, Station officer replaced

An elderly man succumbed to his injuries, after being attacked in an alleged robbery attempt at Chaubepur area here, police said today.

80-year-old Munna Lal Yadav passed away yesterday at the hospital during treatment after he along with his wife were thrashed by a group of robbers in Abdullapur village, Kanpur SSP K S Emanuel said.

The death toll in the case has now risen to two as Ramvati, the deceased's wife had died during the incident itself, he said.

In a fallout of the case, Station officer Prabhat Kumar has been sent to police line and SP (West) Bhimsen has been given the charge of the Chaubepur station, police said.
 

Four teams have been made to investigate the matter and the case will be soon solved, Eamnuel said.

The elderly couple was attacked by the assailants in the wee hours of yesterday. A businessman Arvind Singh from Omnagar village was looted of gold and silver ornaments as well as Rs 20,000 in cash by the group.

Several teams have been formed and a combing operation has been launched in the affected villages besides deploying dog squads and forensic teams.
