Kanpur traders divided over participation in state-wide bandh

The city's trader community is divided over the state-wide bandh called tomorrow by the traders in protest of the alleged assault by some lawyers on former Rajya Sabha MP of Samajwadi Party Banwari Lal Kanchal in Lucknow recently.

While one section of traders is garnering support by visiting markets, while the other section associated with BJP said that they would not oppose the band, but would not support it by coming on to the streets.

Kanchal was allegedly beaten up by a group of lawyers who in the premises of a local court in Lucknow on November 5.

Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapari Mandal's leader Vinay Dwivedi said that he has visited Galla, Loha and other prominent markets in the city and claimed that he has got assurance from traders that the bandh will be successful.
 

Former BJP MP and leader of Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapari Mandal said that since the traders did not consult our fraction before announcing the bandh, we will not come on streets to make it successful.

Our organisation will not oppose the bandh but we are not making any appeal to traders associated with us to participate in the bandh, he said, adding that it was on the traders whether to keep their shops open or closed.
