Kapu community leader Mudragada Padmanabham today said he has deferred the indefinite fast he had planned to start on March 11 in support for the community's demand for Backward Class (BC) status.

"I have postponed my indefinite fast that I had planned to launch on March 11. The decision was taken in view of Kapu leaders' request and examinations of the students," Padmanabham told reporters here.

He said people from all sections have extended their support to the agitation and the media also played a vital role.

The former MP earlier held a meeting with 13 Kapu community leaders from the district to chalk out future course of action with respect to the agitation.

Padmanabham had earlier said he would relaunch protests from March 11 if the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu did not give a written assurance on the inclusion of Kapus in the BC list.
