Press Trust of India Chennai
: Karaikal Port has undertaken a multi-city awareness campaign on the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) for traders across Tamil Nadu.

GST came into effect from July 1 and still there is some "ambiguity" among exporters on the possible impact of the new regime, Karaikal Port said in a statement.

"Traders want to know how the GST will have an impact on the products exported and the amount of tax paid on the raw material", it said.

As part of the campaign, Karaikal Port consultant V Shankara Narayanan addressed traders here and spoke about input tax credit and readjustment of duty drawback scheme to ensure that exporters do not suffer under the new tax regime.

It was also discussed as to how the export industry would be able to have internationally competitive prices due to availability of input tax credit on services, the statement added.
