Security forces in Nagaland today paid rich tribute to the soldiers who had sacrificed their lives in defending the country during the Kargil war of 1999.

July 26 is celebrated as the anniversary of India's victory in the Kargil war against Pakistan.

Led by its Inspector General Maj Gen Sanjay Gupta, Assam Rifles personnel laid wreath and saluted the martyrs at the memorial of Late Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse at Nerhe Pheza in Nagaland's Kohima district.

Gupta described Kenguruse as "a brave son of Nagaland" who has become a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks of the armed forces.

Kenguruse had volunteered to undertake a daring commando mission on a cliff faced with well fortified enemy machine gun post, Gupta said, adding that he not only lived up to the traditions of the Indian Army but also to the state of Nagaland and its warrior clans.

"Young generation of Nagaland should be motivated and must involve themselves to be part of the state and nation's progress," he said.
