The number of cases of crime against women went up in Karimnagar district of Telangana in 2018, the police said Sunday.
While 501 cases of crime against women had been registered in 2017, this year the number increased to 645, showing a rise of 28 per cent, said police commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy.
The overall crime rate declined marginally in the outgoing year.
"In all, 3,869 criminal cases were registered this year, compared to 3,917 cases in 2017," the commissioner said.
As many as 1,669 persons were caught for drunken driving in 2018 and a fine of Rs 81.03 lakh was recovered in these cases.
