Seventh seed Karman Kaur Thandi fired seven aces and packed off wild card Mahak Jain 6-2, 6-4 to enter round two of the USD 25,000 NECC-ITF Women's Tennis tournament here today.

Wild card Ria Bhatia was also knocked out by Kaja Juvan of Slovenia who won 6-0, 6-4 as the Indian committed nine double faults in another round one clash at the Deccan Gymkhana courts.

Karman outsmarted Mahak with her strong groundstrokes. Though she committed six double faults to two from Mahak, she remained always in control of the match after winning the first set 6-2 by winning two of the four break points she earned.

The second set saw Karman firing five aces and, even though she committed four double faults, the seventh seed converted both the break points she earned to cruise into the second round.

Also moving into the second round was No 4 seed Katy Bunne of Britain who defeated Nagi Hanatani of Japan 6-3, 6-1, and No 5 seed Ganna Poznikhirenko of Ukraine who won 6-4, 6-0 against Panna Udvardy of Hungary.

Another Ukranian in the top half of the draw, Anastasiya Vasylyeva, exactly matched the score of her country-mate in beating Russia's Marina Melnikov.
