Karna CM allays fears of TN industrialists

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today sought to allay fears of industrialists from Tamil Nadu to invest in that State apprehending law and order problem in view of the Cauvery water dispute.

Replying to a specific question on the issue raised by an industrialist, Siddramaiah told reporters here that the law and order situation is very good in the State.

"The people of Karnataka are peace loving and one need not worry about the law and order situation..," he said.

When it was pointed out that the industrialist was indirectly referring to the Cauvery issue and its effect on Tamils living in the State, Siddaramaiah said "A bad incident took place about Cauvery issue (interim verdict) and it would not be repeated again.Emotionally, people took the issue seriously then."
 

On Cauvery water sharing issue, he said "the case is pending before the Supreme Court and I do not want to comment."

"The prevailing law and order situation is very good," Siddaramaiah, here to address industrialists of the region, during the 'Coimbatore Road Show-2014- Chamarajangar Investors' Meet 2014," said.

About expected investment in Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka, he said nearly 200 industries have shown keen interest and already Rs 12,000 crore worth Expression of Interest have been signed in various sectors, including textile, granite, food park and more are in the process.

On investments in Global Investors Meet held in 2010-2012, he said 50 per cent of targeted Rs 10 lakh crore investment has materialised and some more were in the pipeline.

On cancellation of mining licences, Siddaramaiah said the Supreme Court had disqualified 51 miners and the Government had cancelled their licences. These would be auctioned very shortly, he said.

Earlier, addressing the industrialists, the chief minister said his government was a pro-active one and the State had investor friendly policies besides a congenial industrial climate and appealed them to invest in Chamarajanagar district, which is just 150 km from here.
