An offering of Rs two crore was today made to the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near here by an industrialist from Bengaluru.

Kodan Srinivasulu Reddy handed over a demand draft to Chadalawada Krishnamurty, Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the ancient and cash-rich shrine, a temple official said.

The devotee requested the TTD to utilise Rs one crore from the offering for the free meals scheme being run for the benefit of pilgrims visiting the hill shrine, TTD Public Relations Officer T Ravi told PTI.

The industrialist wanted the remaining Rs one crore to be used towards construction of proposed multi-crore colossal stone pillar mandapam to come up right in front of the temple in the place of ancient thousand pillar mandapam, demolished in 2002, he added.
