The search was as part of a probe being conducted against the mutt pontiff Vidyamanohara Theertha Swamy, who is alleged to have pledged inventoried mutt property and used the money for personal benefit, police said.

A case of cheating was filed against the pontiff, his mother and Mutt's administrative officer B R Nataraj Jois in December last for allegedly pledging inventoried gold ornaments and valuable articles belonging to the mutt with a city-based financier, police said.

Muzrai sources said the state government has appointed senior IAS officer K Jairaj as the mutt administrator for two years.

However, religious activities at the mutt would continue and transactions conducted under the control of the new administrator, sources said.
