Karnal doctor arrested for conducting sex determination tests

A doctor was today arrested for allegedly conducting sex determination tests at his private clinic in Indri village of Haryana's Karnal district.

The accused doctor, identified as Ashok, was nabbed by a special team of Haryana health and police departments, an official spokesperson said here.

Ashok allegedly used to charge Rs 13,000 for conducting the test illegally, according to the police.

Several abortion pills were also recovered from the doctor's clinic. No record of their sale had been maintained, a police official said.

A case under provisions of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act has been registered against the doctor, he added.
