In a letter to Singh, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said the Centre should not take a "unilateral decision" to notify the Final Award of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal.

The tribunal which adjudicated Cauvery water sharing dispute pronounced the award on February 5, 2007, allocating water share to all the four riparian states-- Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

However, Karnataka has contested the award.

Shettar's letter comes two days after his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa shot off a second letter in a week to Singh asking the Centre to notify the final order of the tribunal for ensuring release of water by Karnataka to save withering crops in the state during this distress year.

Shettar said a meeting of all party Floor Leaders of the legislature and MPs of the Cauvery Basin in Karnataka, held on December 15, had decided to take a delegation led by him to the Prime Minister to represent the state's views on the publication of the Final Award.

Since a Civil Appeal is pending before the Supreme Court and also the application filed before the Tribunal under Section 5 (3) Inter-State Water Disputes Act, Karnataka has already expressed its reservations to notify the Final Award as well as Constitution of the Cauvery Monitoring Board.

Shettar has sought an appointment with Singh for a meeting with the Karnataka delegation to impress upon him the need to consult all the riparian states before the Centre issues the final notification, an official release said.
