Karnataka MLA appointed Cong secretary in-charge for Kerala

The Congress today appointed Karnataka legislator Qamarul Islam as its new secretary in- charge for Kerala.

"Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the name of Qamarul Islam, MLA, Karnataka, as secretary of the AICC. He will be the secretary in-charge for Kerala," said a statement from All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Janardan Dwivedi.

Islam currently represents the Gulbarga North constituency in Karnataka. He has earlier been an MP as well as the Karnataka minister for housing and labour.

The development is part of the efforts of the Congress leadership to restructure the state units of the party.
