The Karnataka government has sought intervention of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to rehabilitate families displaced after demolition of illegal hutments along Goa's Baina beach.

Karnataka State Tourism Minister R V Deshpande met Parrikar today at Porvorim, demanding that people who were displaced should be rehabilitated, since their four-decade old dwellings were demolished.

Deshpande told reporters that he met Parrikar with a plea to look into the matter "with a humanitarian view".

The hutments were demolished earlier this month after an order by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court.

These dwellings were right on the beach, posing a threat to people living in it, during the monsoons.

He said that Parrikar had assured that people would be allowed to stay in rehabilitation camps until September.

"The Goa Chief Minister also assured that these families would be rehabilitated," Deshpande said.
