Karnataka XI ousted an unimpressive Bangladesh Cricket Board XI with a thumping five-wicket win in the SK Acharya Memorial Challenger Trophy one-day invitational tournament here today.

Set a target of 261 thanks to BCB XI opener Imrul Kayes' 100, Karnataka No 3 Shishir Bhavane (112) and opener Mayank Agarwal (70) shared 112 runs for the second wicket to set the foundation before KC Avinash's unbeaten 44 sealed the issue with 21 balls to spare.

Earlier S Arvind and SL Akshya claimed three wickets each to reduce BCB XI to 260/9 in the stipulated 50 overs on a seaming JU second campus track but Karnataka never had any trouble to win their opening fixture.

Their second consecutive loss in as many days meant BCB XI's campaign is all but over with still a match left against hosts Bengal.

Tomorrow Bengal face Mumbai in the four-team invitational tournament.

Brief scores

BCB XI 260/9; 50 overs (Imrul Kayes 100, Mohammed Nasir Hossain 56 not out; S Arvind 3/24, SL Akshya 3/48) lost to Karnataka 264/5; 46.3 overs (Shishir Bhavane 112, Mayank Agarwal 70, KC Avinash 44 not out) by five wickets.
