Indian driver Karun Chandhok has confirmed that he is returning with LMP2 team Murphy Prototypes for his third appearance at the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race on June 22-23.

The former Formula 1 driver has also said that he is in "reasonable" shape to take part in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) opener at Silverstone on April 19 and extending the deal to round two in Imola.

"This is all a bit last minute, but I reckon we are in reasonable shape for Silverstone," Chandhok was quoted as saying by Autosport on Friday.

"Le Mans is the big one and everything beforehand is about building up to that; there's still a question mark about Imola, but I'm pretty optimistic I'll be there," he added.

Chandhok's team-mates will be prototype newcomer Rodolfo Gonzalez and former World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMP2 race winner Tor Graves.

Team owner Greg Murphy commented on the driver line-up: "We'll have two silver drivers in Rodolfo and Alex, and Karun will be our pro - I'm optimistic that he could be with us for the rest of the season."

Murphy had finished seventh in its class last year at Circuit de la Sarthe.

Chandhok raced for LMP1 outfit JRM Racing on his Le Mans debut in 2012, as part of the WEC season.

He had earlier aimed to do a second WEC season this year after a forgettable FIA GT Series experience in 2013. The 30-year-old is also looking for a Formula E drive and has been linked with a seat at Mahindra Racing.

A Le Mans Prototype (commonly abbreviated as LMP) is a type of sports prototype race car used in the Le Mans 24 Hours, WEC, ELMS, United SportsCar Championship and Asian Le Mans Series.
