Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers of the South Indian Artists' Association (SIAA) in the bitterly fought polls, DMK President M Karunanidhi today appealed to the rival groups to forget their differences and work for strengthening the body.

91-year old Karunanidhi, who had been associated with the film industry for several decades being a script writer, said he congratulated the winners.

"I appeal that those who won the polls and those who lost to forget the differences and unite for the growth of the association," he told reporters.

Young actor Vishal Reddy-led team virtually swept the polls yesterday, capturing all five top posts, including those of general secretary and president, ousting the team of R Sarath Kumar, MLA.

PMK Youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss in a statement said, "The victory has come to those who believed that there has to be a change in the Board of SIAA since a section of people have been holding the posts for more than 30 years."

Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council extended its greetings to the newly elected members. "Let's unite and win together", it said in a statement.
