Joining issue with Jayalalithaa who on Tuesday accused him of adopting double standards on issues such as FDI in retail, the DMK patriarch said it was for the people to decide who were trying to fish in troubled waters and issuing contradictory statements.

Referring to Jayalalithaa's charge that DMK could not even convene the meeting of Cauvery River Authority despite being in power at the Centre and state in the past, he said the authority itself came into being because of his efforts.

Jayalalithaa had described the CRA as "toothless body" and walked out of its meeting in 2002, the DMK chief said, adding this had set a precedent for Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar now.

Shettar had walked out of the September 19 CRA meeting protesting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's directive to Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Karunanidhi said similarly on the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant issue, Jayalalithaa got a resolution passed in the cabinet meeting saying the work should be halted till an amicable solution was found. But later she wrote to the Prime Minister that the entire 2,000 MW of power from the plant should be given to Tamil Nadu, he pointed out.

Ridiculing the suggestion of Jayalalithaa that he should stop issuing "contradictory" statement, Karunanidhi said, "I am writing keeping in mind the interest of Tamil people and I have no intention to stop writing, heeding to the advice."
