Passengers commuting through busy Kashmere Gate Metro Station can now quench their thirst with a glass of cold water for just Re 1, as the DMRC today threw open a water kiosk there, a facility that will be extended to four more station soon.

The reverse osmosis-enabled water purifier, with a capacity of 500 litre per hour, has been installed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL).

Four more such facilities will come up this season at Vishwavidyalaya, GTB Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Rithala metro stations. Dispensing a glass of cold water (200 ml) will cost of Re 1, a DMRC statement said.

"The day-to-day operations of the RO plant will be managed by self-help groups (SHG). Tata Power-DDL has already formed 290 such SHGs in the JJ cluster community to address the issue of unemployment," it said.

Presently, no such facilities exist although water pouches costing Re 1 each are available across stores in the station premises.
