A group of traders in Kashmir today protested here against the government's alleged failure in rehabilitating flood victims and compensating businessmen who suffered losses in the last month's floods.

The traders took to streets and marched on the Residency Road in the City Centre here, and assembled at the Clock Tower in Lal Chowk.

They also held out banners and chanted protest slogans.

Various trade bodies recently had joined hands under the banner of State Economic Reconstruction Forum (SERF) to demand rehabilitation and compensation for the flood-hit people.

Sheikh Ashiq, who heads the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, alleged that six weeks have passed since floods hit the Valley but no rehabilitation process has been started yet.

"We demand immediate rehabilitation of traders affected by the recent floods. Also those who had lost their homes should be rehabilitated immediately," he said.
