Senior legislator Satyadev Katare has been nominated as Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader by party president Sonia Gandhi, paving his way to become the Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

Besides Katare, the party has also nominated MLA Rajendra Singh for the post of Deputy Speaker of the House.

Katare won the polls from Ater seat in Bhind district while Singh got elected from Amarpatan in Satna.

After receiving a communication from the Congress high command in this regard, state Congress Committee president Kantilal Bhuria formally informed Assembly secretary Rajkumar Pandey about the nominations.

Later, Bhuria told reporters about the nomination of Katare for CLP leader's post and of Singh for Deputy Speaker.

Katare, who was present on the occasion, said the people of the state will see how effectively the Congress would raise their voice in the Assembly.

"The Congress will play a role of effective opposition in the Assembly and will try to corner the government on the issues of public interest by adopting all parliamentary means," he said.

Singh said he will work with full dedication towards the responsibility bestowed on him by his party and will endeavour to function in an impartial manner as Deputy Speaker by coordinating with the ruling and opposition members.
