Former Union Minister and Congress MLA Preneet Kaur today supported the demand of the striking petroleum dealers of Punjab for parity in VAT on petroleum, on par with other neighbouring states.

On her appeal, the petroleum dealers, who were sitting on hunger strike, broke their fast also.

President of the Petroleum Dealers Association Paramjit Singh Doaba and two other office bearers of the association had been on hunger strike for last few days.

Kaur told the striking petroleum dealers that Congress was in support of their demands which were "genuine and justified."

She promised that once Congress forms the government in Punjab, it will bring the VAT on petrol on par with other states so that the petrol pumps bordering other states like Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and the Chandigarh do not suffer any losses.

The former Union Minister while urging the petroleum dealers to break their fast, told them that their lives were precious.

She alleged that the Akali-BJP government in the state was totally "insensitive and did not bother about the lives of people.
