Noted human rights activist Avdhash Kaushal today asked Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to immediately withdraw facilities being "illegally enjoyed" by former CMs in the state including N D Tiwari and B C Khanduri.
In a letter written to Bahuguna, the Padma Shree awardee rights activist said red beacons being used by former CMs Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Bhuvan Chandr Khanduri and N D Tiwari should be immediately removed from their official vehicles in the light of a recent Supreme Court order which restricts their use by only people occupying constitutional posts.
Alleging that former CMs Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and N D Tiwari also enjoy the facility of getting two vehicles with drivers despite the fact they are not even MLAs at present, Kaushal said these facilities being given to them are "illegal" and should be withdrawn.
In support of his argument, the human rights activist said even the Prime Minister and the Vice President of India are authorised to get only one vehicle after retirement and that too under the provisions of laws passed by Parliament.
He also referred to a Jharkhand High Court order dated July 31, 2013 which asked the state government to withdraw facilities enjoyed by former chief ministers after they relinquish office.
