On the wishes of his mother Ramkali Kaushik, who passed away yesterday at the age of 89 after suffering from a prolonged illness, Kaushik decided to go on with his eldest son, Ishant's marriage after performing all the rituals.
"Normally, people defer the dates after suffering from such personal tragedy. But we decided not to alter the dates as my mother wanted this marriage to happen on this very date," said Kaushik, who was a member of the Indian hockey team that won its eighth and last Olympic gold medal in 1980 Moscow Games.
"My mother was hospitalised for the last one month but despite that she was very upbeat about the marriage," he added.
