Kayaking International championship gets underway

About 67 kayakers from 14 nations will vie for top honours in the second edition of the Kayaking International championship and white water rafting, which got underway in Thusharagiri, here today.

The championship is being held as part of the Malabar International river festival.

Competitions will be held in the Beginners race (Individual), Kayaking sprint (Individual), Boater Cross (Group Kayaking race), Freestyle Competition and Mass Boater Cross.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the event, said Thusharagiri has great potential to be a tourism hotspot. Taking into consideration the immense potential and as part of adventre tourism, government planned to launch a kayaking Centre at Thusharagiri, he said.
 

About Rs 5 lakh cash prize is on offer for winners in various competitions in the event.
