Kazakh, Uzbek held for smuggling gold

A male passenger from Uzbekistan and a woman from Kazakhstan have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth Rs 1.24 crore.

The accused were intercepted by customs officials after their arrival at the international airport here on Thursday.

During detailed examination of their baggage and personal search, gold articles weighing 5.3 kgs and valued at Rs 1.24 crore, were recovered from them, a press release issued today by the customs said.

The gold articles were disguised in the form of wheels of a trolley bag, six keys coated with silver colour kept inside their checked in luggage, belt buckles coated with black colour paint worn by both the passengers and two chains coated with silver colour, it said.
 

Both the passengers have been arrested and the gold articles recovered from them have been seized, the release said.
