Kaziranga National Park thrown open to tourists

The Kaziranga National Park and the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for their one-horned rhinos, were thrown open to tourists today, officials said.

Assam Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma in presence of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora reopened the Kaziranga National Park for tourists at the Kohora range, a forest official said.

Assam Water Resources Minister Keshav Mahanta opened the Bagori range of the park spread across Golaghat, Nagaon and Sonitpur districts in the state, the official said.

The Kaziranga Jeep Safari Association took out a procession to mark the opening of the tourist season, the official said.

Forest officials also reopened the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district today, he said.
 

All wildlife parks and sanctuaries in Assam were closed during the monsoon.
