Actor Keanu Reeves will be honoured at the Deauville Film Festival in September with a career tribute.

The 50-year-old "The Matrix" star will join "The Tree of Life" director Terrence Malick, who will also receive an homage during the week, said The Hollywood Reporter.

"Forever Neo from 'Matrix,' Jonathan Harker in 'Dracula' or Le Chevalier Danceny in 'Dangerous Liaisons,' Keanu Reeves has demonstrated his ability to take on extremely varied roles during his long and impressive movie career. He has worked with directors such as Gus Van Sant, Francis Ford Coppola, Bernardo Bertolucci and more recently Richard Linklater," the organizer said in the announcement.

Festival organisers also quoted his work as a director, with 2013's "Man of Tai Chi" and producer with 2012's documentary "Side by Side".

As part of the tribute, Deauville will host a retrospective of Reeves's most popular movies.

The festival is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 14 with French helmer Benoit Jacquot heading the jury.

Director Balthasar Kormakur's "Everest" will be the opening film and Denis Villeneuve's "Sicario" will bring down the curtains.
