Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely today accused Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of playing politics to gain power.

"Due to his greed for power, Kejriwal first talked about sending media persons to jail, and then backtracked," said Lovely while addressing a function organised by the Mahila Vikas Manch at Constitution Club here.

Slamming opposition parties on the issue of women's safety in Delhi, Lovely said, "For BJP and AAP, safety and empowerment of women became political agenda only when the elections were around."

Attacking BJP over its role as an opposition during the Congress rule in Delhi, he said all schemes initiated by the Congress for women empowerment were opposed by the opposition.

Lovely also accused the BJP of 'silently siding' with Former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti and thereby preventing justice to women.

Abha Choudhary and Promila Sibbal of Mahila Vikas Munch demanded an immediate arrest of Bharti.
