The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has sought explanation from the principals of around 240 of its schools over non-satisfactory performance in Class XII board exams.

According to officials, while the overall performance of Kendriya Vidyalayas, which come under the HRD Ministry, has shown a slight improvement in the Class XII exams, there were around 240 schools which recorded a drop in the pass percentage.

"The schools which performed below the levels of previous years have been asked to explain the reasons behind the performance which is below expectation," a senior official said.

The official said that the replies to these show-cause notices would also help the administration to ascertain the overall reasons for poor performance.

It is learnt that the schools have shown a decline between 1 and 42 per cent in their pass percentage.

In addition to the school principals, the KVS administration has also sought explanation from some deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan runs over 1,100 schools of which around 875 are up to Class XII.

A senior official said that while explanations have been sought from several school heads, around 200 KVs have even scored a 100 percentage pass percentage in Class XII.
