Ker cabinet approves insurance scheme for Anganwadi workers

Kerala cabinet today decided to introduce an insurance scheme for Anganwadi workers and helpers and set up a Kerala Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Welfare Fund.

The state cabinet approved Kerala Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Welfare Ordinance-2015. The workers and helpers would be enrolled in the Anganwadi Bheema Karyakarthri Yojana Insurance Scheme.

Cabinet decided to recommend issuance of the Ordinance to the Governor, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters during cabinet briefing here.

As per the ordinance, the workers and helpers who work under comprehensive development project will be eligible for retirement benefits and other benefits and a Welfare Fund would be set up.
 

The workers and the helpers will have to do a monthly contribution of Rs 200 and Rs 100 respectively towards the Fund.

A Special officer has been appointed to prepare and submit a report regarding the formation of a Special Regulatory Board aimed at the protection of the rights of senior citizens.

The report should be submitted within six months by bringing in necessary changes in the existing laws, Chandy added.
