The Kerala High Court today allowed a 25-year-old transwoman to live according to her will after a medical examination cleared her of any psychological problem.

The court was disposing of a petition filed by the transwoman's mother who submitted that the 25-year old was her son and was allegedly being illegally detained by members of the transgender community.

Considering the medical reports which said the trans woman had no psychological problems, a division bench comprising justices V Chitambaresh and K P Jyothindranath set her at liberty and said she can live according to her will.

During the earlier hearing, the trans woman had appeared before the bench and submitted that she was a transgender and wanted to live with other members of the community.

The bench had then directed a team of doctors to physically and psychologically examine whether the person was a transgender.
