Anil Kumar and Vivekanandan, staff of the mental health centre where the 25-year-old man was taken, submitted that they were in judicial custody for about 70 days and should be granted bail.

Justice N K Balakrishnan directed them to submit a bond of Rs one lakh each with two solvent sureties for a like amount. They have been asked to appear before the Investigating Officer on Mondays and Fridays and not to leave the country.

Mann was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on August 1 after he tried to barge onto the podium of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi at her Amratapuri Ashram at Vallikkavu in Kollam district while she was giving blessings to devotees.

He was stopped by devotees and security guards and handed over to police, who later admitted him to the mental hospital as he appeared mentally disturbed.

The youth was found dead later in the Thiruvananthapuram mental health centre with 77 wounds on his body.
