Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala today rejected the evidence produced by Government chief whip P C George to substantiate his charge that state DGP had tried to sabotage the case relating to the murder of a security guard in which a rich businessman is the accused.

"I heard audio conversation between the two officers and there is no evidence to connect DGP in the matter," Chennithala told reporters here a day after he rejected George's allegation in this regard.

He also termed as 'unfortunate' the charge of George and said government had full confidence in DGP K S Balasubramaniyam.

He also added that the investigation in the case was progressing in the right direction.

Chennithala had yesterday said the DGP "has a good track record and is an officer with integrity. We have full confidence in him."

However, Chennithala had said government would examine the evidence that George could produce to substantiate his charges.

Meanwhile, George reiterated his charge at a press meet here and released to media the compact disc purportedly containing the conversation between two police officers along with a detailed letter that he had given to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Chennithala.

George's charge was that former DGP M N Krishnamoorthy had called the investigative officer Jacob Job, then Thrisssur Police Commissioner and informed him that DGP wanted to save the accused Muhammed Nisham from the case.

Job was under suspension on charges that he did not conduct the investigation in due process.

Rejecting George's charge, Balasubramaniyam said he had taken only steps that was required as per call of duty.

Krishnamurthy also denied the charges and said he had no relationship with any anti-social element.

The case relates to the death of 50-year-old security guard Chandra Bose at a posh residential complex in Thrissur after Nisham allegedly attacked him for delay in opening the gate of the complex last month.

The incident in which Nisham allegedly roughed up the security guard, dragged him to the wall of the parking lot and rammed his Hummer vehicle into his body, had evoked widespread protests in the state.
