Ker new year revelry should end shortly past midnight:Police

New year eve revelry in Kerala should come to a close shortly after midnight of December 31, the state police today said announcing that elaborate arrangements had been made to ensure smooth celebrations.

In a statement, DGP Loknath Behara said the celebrations will have to end about 30-45 minutes after midnight. 'It has been decided in consultation with all the stakeholders that the celebrations after the midnight will continue for next 30 to 45 minutes to windup,' he said.

Police personnel will be posted at important places and on the roads to ensure that the celebrations go on smoothly without causing any disturbance or annoyance to any person.
 

Speical emphasis has been given to the safety and security of the women and the family members who will also be participating in such celebrations, the DGP said.

The hoteliers, organisers of various parties and celebrations have been asked to cooperate with the police and to immediately inform about any disorderly behaviour or illegal activity, which are contrary to the law, so that police can intervene timely and appropriately. 'It is the responsibility of police and the organisers to ensure the safety and security of individuals, who go for such parties or celebrations,' the DGP said adding police would take strong action against any illegalities.

In order to avoid road accidents and any untoward incidents, especially on the roads, special measures have been taken.
