CPI(M)-led LDF government will organise International Theatre Festival here on the lines of the annual International Film Festival of Kerala, a sought-after event for movie buffs across the world.
State Minister for Culture and Law A K Balan today informed the state assembly that government would take steps to promote the drama festival on the lines of the movie fest.
He was replying to a question raised by actor-turned CPI(M) MLA Mukesh on conducting the theatre festival on a scheduled manner.

"It is true that the theatre festival has not been getting necessary importance like the film festival. The government will take necessary steps to promote drama and drama festival on the lines of the international film festival," Balan said.
Pointing out the alleged lack of attention given to the theatre festival, Mukesh said the drama fest is intended to bring internationally acclaimed plays before theatre buffs in the state.
The fest, in the present format, was unable to bring quality plays to the state, he said, adding, a strict schedule, on the lines of the film festival, should be introduced in the case of theatre festival also.
