Kerala aims at 10 pc growth in tourist arrival during 2015

Kerala is aimig at ten per cent growth in tourist arrival during 2015, an official said today.

"We had registered a growth of about 7.5 per cent in tourist arrival during 2014. In 2015, we are targeting a ten per cent rise," Kerala Tourism additional director Anupama T V said here.

In 2014, foreign tourist arrival was 9.23 lakh with a 7.6 per cent jump and domestic tourist number was 1.16 crore, a rise of 7.71 per cent over 2013.

The total revenue from tourism during 2014 was at Rs 24,885 crore, she said.

Speaking on the plans, Anupama said the April, 2015-March, 2016 period has been earmarked as "Visit Kerala year."
 

"We will explore new markets like China and Sri Lanka. Kerala will also be promoted as a major destination to host weddings," she said.

Anupama said a seaplane project for last mile connectivity to the backwaters has been initiated and bids have been invited from private entities.
